Maintenance |
|
Hi, I met my boyfriend about 10 months ago and he was unemployed. He was also extremely unhappy about the fact that his ex-girlfriend, with whom he has a 4 year old daughter, was denying him access to the child. As a result, I had him contact her and agree to a maintenance amount that I would contribute so that he could see his daughter. I have paid this to her religiously for the last 9 months and we see his daughter every second weekend. However in January she demanded more maintenance and threatened us with denied visitation until we forked out the extra money. I then paid her the extra and things carried on well for a few months. Yesterday she contacted us again with the same threat. My boyfriend has since gained employment and is paid a salary of R 2000.00 a month. She earns at least 3 times the amount. I find it extremely unfair that she uses my salary to determine her "expected" maintenance as I know for fact that she does not spend it on the child. What recourse does he have? She has threatened maintenance court - something I would actually be happy about as the amount I currently pay her is probably double what any court would order. But in the meantime - after paying - we are still denied access to the child!! What do we do??
