Mother jailed - The Citizen, July 8, 2008

UNWED MOTHER IS JAILED TO UPHOLD DAD’S RIGHTS

(The Citizen, July 8, 2008-Ilse de Lange, hicourt@mweb.co.za)

An unwed mother will have to spend a weekend in jail for repeatedly refusing to allow her daughters father to exercise his visiting rights.

The father, a Pretoria prison warder, went back to court to have his nine-year old illegitimate daughter’s mother jailed after she ignored a Pretoria High Court order and a suspended jail sentence.

Acting judge Peter Mabuse yesterday ordered that the mother be jailed for a weekend while the child spends time with her dad. She must also abide by a 2006 court order granting the father regular access to his daughter.

He also granted a punitive costs order against the mother, an administrative official.

The father said in court papers his former mistress flatly refused to grant him access to his daughter even after he went to her house with the police. It appeared from a family advocate’s report that the woman was worried the father’s white wife would abuse the child.

Its so sad that a dad who WANTS to spend time with his child has to resort to such extremitys as to have the mother jailed, its a inconvenience and just increases the tension between the parents and its so unecessary, yet i understand why he did it as i now to have to resort to the same measures, and like i said its so uncalled for, mothers take advantage of their situation as the care giver and think they can call the shots and just deny us fathers who have but only good intensions towards our kids, the acces we want,if any mothers are reading this ,please think carefully before you deny your childs father his rights to see that child as EVERY moment a father spends with his child IS SO important in that child's life as it creates a everlasting memeory and creates character in that childs life and upbringing and also good memories

This is so true. Why do mothers resort to punishing the dad through his children. Have they no pride in themselves. What happens if there is no court order in place due to the fact that the parents cannot come to agreement with regard to visitation for the father. Must the father then be punished on a long term basis by a bitter soon to be ex wife?
